Edward L. Campbell, 71, of Coal Valley, IL, died Saturday, July 29, 2017, at his home.

 

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal.  Military honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion Post 255 and the Orion VFW Post 143.  Those wishing to attend the graveside services should meet at 9:30 a.m. at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home, 1301 4th Street, Orion.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ed’s family.

 

Ed was born on July 17, 1946, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Gene G. and Anna B. Janssens Campbell.  Ed married Janice Washburn in 1969 in Orion.  He later married Delpha J. Anderson Peterson, on August 2, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

Ed was a skilled machinist at Case Corporation in Rock Island.  When the Rock Island Case Plant closed, Ed attended Black Hawk College in Labors Studies and began his own trucking company, C & C Trucking and Son Inc, Coal Valley.  Later, he would return to Case in East Moline, where he would retire from CNH in 1997 after 31 years of employment.

 

Ed was a disabled Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, and was a lifetime member of the DVA.  Ed was a member of Local 1304 UAW, East Moline.  He was a former member of The Rock Island 806 UAW, where he severed on several committees including, Financial Secretary, Vice President, and represented the local UAW in Washington DC in the 1970’s and 80’s.  Ed designed and installed the solar and wind power for their home and motor home.  When Ed retired, he enjoyed traveling in their motor home with his wife, Delpha, and spending winters in California with their friends.

 

Survivors include his wife, Delpha; children, Kelly Campbell, Orion, and Bryan (Kimberly) Campbell, Coal Valley; step children, Lisa (Dion) Perkins, Davenport, and Doug (Lindsey) Peterson, Davenport; grandchildren; Cassidy Campbell, Mia Campbell, Cameron Campbell, Parker Campbell, Tevin Robbins, Aaliyah Perkins, Raine Peterson, and Mavrik Peterson; great granddaughter, Maya Sanchez-Robbins; brother; Richard (Glenda) Campbell, Geneseo, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Donald.
