Janet C. Meyer, 82, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline, IL, died Monday, October 23, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1724 15th Street, Moline.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Youth Hope, or the Rock Island County Historical Society.

 

Janet was born on April 24, 1935, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Chester B. and Dorothy M. Efflandt Swanson.  She graduated from Moline High School and attended Iowa State College and Augustana College.  She worked in library services in the Moline School System and at Augustana College. 

 

Janet married Paul M. Carlson on May 10, 1958, in Moline, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1979.  She married Edward H. Meyer on August 15, 1987, in Moline, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2016.

 

Janet was a member of the Moline Preservation Society and the Rock Island County Historical Society, where she volunteered doing genealogical research.  She loved history and wrote and published a book on the John Deere family.  Janet also enjoyed reading, gardening, and sewing.  She belonged to Salem Lutheran Church in Moline, King’s Daughters, and the QC Video Club.

 

Survivors include her 4 children, Laura Carlson (Edwin Bonnie), Golden Valley, MN, Justin T. Carlson (Linda), East Moline, IL, Philip Carlson (Lisa), Hannibal, MO, and Joel Carlson, Chicago, IL; 2 stepsons, Jack Meyer (Jan), Nashville, TN, and Kurt Meyer (Jan), Moline, IL; 10 grandchildren, Robin Chin, Kelli Carlson, Riley Carlson, Addison Carlson, John Meyer (Danielle), Allie Pratt (Eric), Julie Super (John), Heather Powell (Jason), Drew Meyer, and Evan Meyer; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Richard W. Swanson (Fanchon “Fannie” Aragno), Madison, WI, and Ronald J. Swanson (Barbara), Redmond, OR.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and great granddaughter.
