Caleb W. Calhoun, 30, of Rock Island, formerly of Orion and Coal Valley, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Caleb was preceded in death by grandfathers James Calhoun and William Anderson and uncle Bill Anderson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5 at noon at Orion United Methodist Church, 407 12th Ave, Orion. Visitation will be Friday, May 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. until noon, also at the church.  Cremation rites have been accorded per Caleb’s wishes.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caleb Calhoun Memorial Fund.  Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Caleb was born Sept. 21, 1987, in Moline, IL. He attended Orion schools where he made many lifelong friends and graduated in 2006. Caleb attended Iowa State University and Eastern Illinois University; he had just been accepted in the accounting program at Western Illinois University. He was employed as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Coal Valley.

One of Caleb’s favorite pastimes was soccer, which he introduced to his family at the age of 5 and continued to enjoy into adulthood. His other interests included Magic the Gathering and music, especially Arcade Fire, TV on the Radio, and Bruce Springsteen on vinyl.  When younger, he and his sisters spent many hours with their Papaw working jigsaw puzzles, a tradition he continued on the last family vacation.

Other survivors include grandmothers Donna Anderson, Girard, IL; Tommie Calhoun, Durham, NC; and step-grandmother Elizabeth Anderson, Savoy, IL. Also surviving are aunts and uncles Julie and Dave Stoops, Durham, NC; Joe and Cheryl Calhoun, Irvine, CA; cousins Hannah and husband Chase Thompson, Linnea Stoops, and Emma Stoops; girlfriend Kristin Dietz; a large, but close knit set of family members; and the family dog Piper, who shared a special bond with Caleb and always knew he was coming down the lane before anyone else did.

Caleb’s quiet, sensitive nature is sorely missed.
