Glenn "Al" Alan Lentz, 80, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley, IL. Following the graveside service will be a luncheon at United Methodist Church in Green Valley. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, where he was a member, or to the Boys and Girls Club of Moline.

Al was born on April 4, 1935, in Knoxville, Knox County, IL, the son of Glenn O. and Beulah West Lentz. He attended Knoxville schools all 12 years and enrolled at Western Illinois University. He received a B.S. in All-Grade Supervision in 1957 and a M.S. in School Administration in 1961. He was a teacher and elementary principal in East Galesburg, Knoxville, and a teacher in Galesburg and Quincy. He was also an Educational Consultant with the Quincy Youth Development Commission. He was an elementary principal at Franklin and Mark Twain schools in Kankakee, IL. Moving to Moline in 1972, he was a principal at McKinley, then Maple Grove, Blackhawk and Bicentennial schools. At Bicentennial he was principal and Director of the Maple Preschool prior to his retirement. He was awarded the Certificate of Honorary Life Membership and Book of Recognition, IL Congress of parents and teachers by his Moline Schools.

On August 2, 1964, he married Linda Williams in Pekin, IL. Al enjoyed gardening, especially his tomatoes and black raspberries, planting trees and cooking. He will be remembered by his family for his great Sunday dinners.

Al was a member of National Wildlife and Viking Thor Lodge 9. He gave to many non-profit organizations. He was also a member of IL Retired Teachers and the local Blackhawk chapter.

Al is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Dara L. (Victor J.) Barney, Bettendorf, IA; son, Douglas A. (Tina L.) Lentz, Carlsbad, CA; granddaughters, Hannah L. and Miriam E. Barney; grandson, Douglas Charles; sisters, Janelle Lentz and Becky Lentz, Knoxville, IL; brother, Tom Lentz, Surprise, AZ; sister in law, Sally Lentz, Wenola, IL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, infant brother, Richard, and twin brothers, Bob and Bill.
