Alan Dean Mason

Alan Dean Mason, 76, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline with military honors. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline is assisting the family.

Alan was born on March 27, 1949, in Shelbina, Missouri, the son of Harlan and Eunice (Gosney) Mason. He married the love of his life, Mary A. Frenell on January 23, 1982, in Rock Island. Alan was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of VVA Chapter 299. Alan had been employed as a mechanic for many years, working on various equipment. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed building hot rods. He also enjoyed drag racing. He loved listening to 60’s music and had played various instruments in his younger years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Alicia (Dan) Bunch, Colona, Chris (Lisa) Mason, Hillsdale, and Brad (Tammy) Mason, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Terry (Karla) Mason, Tennessee; sister, Vickie (Bill) Kent, Rock Island; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dee Ann and brother, Gary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299, American Heart Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A special thank you to the ICU Staff at Iowa City VA Medical Center, especially Angela & Sarah, his Telehealth nurses Angie & Amanda, and his Home Base Primary Care staff, especially Lalo. Thank you all for the care and support provided to Alan and his family.
