Anthony Sconyers, 74, was born to James and Helen Sconyers. He departed from us on Sunday morning, December 14, 2025. He was known to his friends, co-workers, and the community as “Tony”.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family, for a fund to be established.

He graduated elementary school at the age of 11 then from high school as class valedictorian at the age of 15. He attended college and graduated when he was 19. The summer after college, he worked as a taxi driver to save money for a trip to East Africa which he took with a college friend. Upon returning home he worked as a mail clerk and attended graduate school in the evenings where he met his wife, Novella. He graduated with a master’s degree in 1976.

Tony began his career with the federal government as a contract specialist and attended law school in the evenings. After graduating with a Juris Doctor degree, he joined the Office of Counsel as an attorney-advisor on the Rock Island Arsenal. He had various promotions within the organization and in 1994 became Chief Counsel, leading a staff of attorney-advisors. The awards and honors earned by Tony during his legal career were numerous including the Army Materiel Command’s Attorney of the Year Award and he was named a Meritorious Executive. Tony was on the Board of Directors of numerous businesses and organizations, and also served as an evening instructor of business and contract law at local colleges. He was a devout Christian and a long-time member of St. Patrick Church where he was a choir member and Sunday school teacher.

Tony loved to sing and never missed an opportunity to do so. When he was 13, along with his brother Doug, cousin Wanda, and neighborhood friend, the group “Wanda and the Wonderfuls” was formed. They won first place in a high school talent show and a contract with Chess Records. They reprised the group 50 years later and performed at various senior facilities for several years singing songs from the 50s and 60s. He was also a member of the Good News Singers Chorale, which sang religious songs at senior living facilities and churches, especially during the holiday season. A jazz fan since college, he loved listening to it and performed jazz programs throughout the region. He was also a devoted Catfish Jazz Society enthusiast. Tony was pleased to work with the professional musicians who accepted him into their community and had the utmost respect for their abilities. He especially enjoyed working with his friend Boris as the “Boris and Tony Acoustic Jazz Duo” with Tony as vocalist and Boris on guitar.

Tony was a devoted family man. He was a caring and loving husband and father. Survivors include his wife, Novella; children, Jennifer, Eric, and Adrienne; brother, Douglas; mother-in-law, Margaret; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
