Surrounded by her family and compassionate caregivers, Arla R. Docherty, 82, of East Moline, IL, died June 28, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus, Davenport, IA.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at St. Francis Hall at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3209 60th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the church. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and private inurnment will be at a later time. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Greyhound Rescue.
Arla was born on December 2, 1932, in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Roy D. and Helen G. Dyer Zink. She married Leslie Docherty in Gatlinburg, TN, in 1987. She worked as a Cost Accountant for John Deere, retiring in 1994. She then enjoyed a second career as a statistician in the ED at Illini Hospital, retiring in 2014. Prior to her employment, she volunteered at Illini and WQPT.
Arla loved casinos, reading and crocheting. She also enjoyed collecting cookbooks and cooking for her family and co-workers.
Survivors include her children, Cheryl (Mark) Grimm, Addy, WA, Cyndi (Tim) Ashmun, Milan, IL, Kaelyn Bush, Rock Island, IL, Melonee Docherty, Illinois City, IL, Teresa Docherty, Viola, IL, Kari (Gene) Hess, East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Jennie (Chris) Fisk, Andrew (Destiny) Cheff, Aubrey Johnson, Rachel Ashmun, Joshua (Angela) Suman, Alissa Johnson, Chad (Laura) Hoover, and Tarah (John) Houk; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and her beloved fur-child, Porter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Leslie; brother, Robert; and sister, Beverly.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Genesis Medical Center - East Campus CCU Staff; especially nurses, SaySha, Kent, Suzanna, Jackie, and Michelle; Dr. Geiss and nurse Ivy; Dr. Motto; and the perfusionists, Jon, Heidi, Tim, and Eric, for their incredible care and compassion.
