Barbara A Mathews

Barbara A. Mathews, 79, of Moline, passed away on September 28, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.

Per Barbara’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials are made to Animal Aid Humane Society, Moline.

Barbara was born on February 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Nathan and Virginia (Gogg) Bast. She graduated from Marion High School, class of 1965. She married Mark Mathews on June 17, 1967, in Marion, IA. Barb worked as an usher and in the customer service office at The MARK in Moline when it had first opened for 7 years.

Barb enjoyed hiking, camping, traveling to new places and getting lost in a book. Nothing meant more to her than her devoted husband and three amazing children. She adored being with her wonderful grandkids and attending all of their events. Barb loved the holidays and cherished every moment spent gathering with her family and friends, who all meant the world to her.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Mark; her children, Michael (Alicia) Mathews of Moline, IL, David (Erin) Mathews of Davenport, IA, Debra Prieto of East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Devin Prieto of the QC, Liam Mathews of the QC, Brynn Mathews of the QC, McKena Mathews of TX, and Connor Mathews of the QC; sister, Debra Grulky of Indianapolis, IN; brothers, Bob Bast of Mcclenny, FL and Bill (Esther) Bast of Ocala, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
