A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3205 60th Street, Moline. Barbara was born on January 20, 1938, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of John and Dolores (Peot) Atkins. Her grandparents emigrated from Russia in 1913. She retired from 3M Cordova in 1992. She married Fred Smith, Jr., on December 24, 1982, in Las Vegas, NV. Barbara aspired to be the best wife in the world. She was. She was a great cook and loved to bake, but never dried dishes. She loved to straighten up closets.
Barbara took great pride in her many flower beds. She enjoyed playing her keyboard and mothering her kitties, Ginger and Chloe. She collected chimes. She volunteered at the Hampton Elementary School and organized Reading in the Park when the bookmobile no longer came to Hampton.
Barbara and Fred were always together, whether volunteering, gardening, going to the casinos and library, and traveling the world. They were grateful to be able to have the best life on earth. "The road without you will be long, a tear for every mile, but I know one day when I reach the end you will be waiting for me with a smile" - Love always, your Freddie.
