Bartholomew Joseph "Bud" Vogel, Jr., 87, of Silvis, IL, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3205 60th Street, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum in Rock Island, IL, where military honors will be performed by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to River Bend Foodbank.
Barth was born on March 2, 1926, in Andalusia, IL, the son of Bartholomew J. and Kathryn Frances (Plunkett) Vogel, Sr. He married Mary "Kay" Catherine Dempsey on June 28, 1948, in Champaign, IL. He worked for Deere & Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1991 as the Manager of Parts Logistics. Barth served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline. During that time he was a Trustee, Parish Council member, Eucharistic Minister, Pastoral Care Minister, and head of the food pantry. Currently he was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. For 30 years, Barth was Chairman of the Board at River Bend Foodbank. Although he retired in 2012, he remained on the board.
