Bengt "Ben" H. Anderson, 87, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, June 02, 2015, at the Lighthouse of Silvis, Silvis, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1724 15th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private family inurnment will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or to QC Music Guild.

Ben was born on August 18, 1927, in Norra Ving, Skaraborgs, Sweden, the son of John Oskar and Augusta Sofia Bilger Anderson. The family immigrated to the U.S. when Ben was 7 months old. He married Catherine Hutchings on October 16, 1954, in Moline, IL. He worked as the City Forrester for the City of Moline for 41 years, retiring in 1992.

Ben was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church since 1928, where he formerly attended Church Board and was a choir member. He was on the City Beautification Committee for the City of Moline. In 1989, Ben won an award at the Bi-State Landscape & Turf Conference. He was a member of Thor Lodge #9 IOV.

Survivors include his loving wife, Catherine; daughter, Linda (Bob) Leaf, Moline, IL; son , John Anderson, CA; granddaughter , Anika Johnson Sitko, Moline, IL; great grandson, Dylan Sitko, Moline, IL; brother, Evert "Andy" Anderson, San Pablo, CA; nephews, Greg (Karen) Anderson, CA, and Jeff (Mary) Anderson, MO; niece, Denise (Danny) Bernardy, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Pat Anderson.

Ben will be rejoining the Hy-Vee Coffee Group in heaven.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Harbor at the Lighthouse as well as the staff at Hospice Compassus for their wonderful care.
