Bernerd R. Wheeler, 83, of Aledo, IL, died Friday, August 25, 2017, at Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Aledo, IL.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be accorded by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
Bernerd was born on May 10, 1934, in Moline, IL, the son of Glenn and Grace L. Havener Wheeler. He married Dorothy “Dottie” Troutner on March 28, 1974, in Las Vegas, NV, and she preceded him in death in June of 1992. He worked as a carpenter for Carpenter Union Local 166.
Bernerd was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Reynolds American Legion. Bernerd enjoyed doing yard work and repair work.
Survivors include his son, Michael R. (Kay) Wheeler, Reynolds, IL; granddaughter, Stephanie Duffield; grandson, Justin (Yolanda) Duffield; 5 great grandchildren, Anthony, Kalai, Kevin, Isabella, and Bree; brothers, Glenn (Peggy) Wheeler, Illinois City, IL, and Gary (Paula) Wheeler, WI; sisters, Janet Monholland, Bettendorf, IA, and Karen Leonard, Davenport, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Mark Allen Wheeler; brother, Donald; sister, Darlene.
