Betty Jean Reece, 87, of Moline, passed away, Friday, May 22 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline IL.
Visitation will be 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. Those wishing to attend meet at the funeral home by 12:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hope Creek Care Center.
Betty was born April 18, 1928 in Danville, IL, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Schudlock Swiatkiewicz. She married Bill C. Reece on June 6, 1946 in Moline. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1993. She graduated from St. Mary's parochial school of Moline in 1946. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline and also attended and was a member at St Anne's Catholic Church in East Moline.
Betty worked 20 years at Eagle Supermarket, and later A&P supermarket on 23rd Avenue Moline, up to its closing in 1976. Later, she also worked part-time at the Mr. Fresh drive-thru store on 41st Moline. To Betty, this was a fun job as she enjoyed the people she worked with, and also enjoyed interacting with daily customers at the drive-up.
Betty enjoyed traveling, in particular an overseas trip that took her and her husband to Rome Italy and Israel. She was an avid reader, enjoyed being outdoors, in her early years enjoyed bowling, and while her children were in school, she was active in the Roosevelt Elementary school PTA. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by daughter, Cindy (Robert) O'Connell Palm Coast, FL; Son, Steve Reece (Mary Ann Maere) Moline, IL; grandchildren, Joshua McEnany (Christine) Port Orange, FL; Great Grandson, Carter Joshua McEnany Port Orange, FL; sister, Nancy (Ben) Royer Elgin, IL; brother, Jack (Joyce) Swiatkiewicz Moline, IL, sister-in-laws Jean Swiatkiewicz Moline, IL, Sarah (Nel) Swiatkiewicz Carroll, IA, Emma Sinor Yuma, AZ, and numerous special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, sisters, Evelyn Swiatkiewicz, Antoinette Howlett; brothers, Robert Swiatkiewicz and Raymond Swiatkiewicz; and brother-in-law James Sinor.
