Betty J. Starr, 88, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to an educational fund for her great grandchildren.
Betty was born on March 10, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Eugene and Alta (Chapman) Slead. She married Edward T. Starr on October 19, 1945, in Ottumwa, IA, and he preceded her in death in August of 1988. Betty held various positions at Tri City Food, National Tea, and A&P for 23 years, retiring in 1975.
Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church in Moline. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, card games with family, and reading. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting with her neighbors. More than anything, Betty loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
