Billie Jean "Bettie" Brown

Billie Jean "Bettie" Brown, 80, of Moline, formerly of Milan, IL, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the family.

Bettie was born on January 15, 1935, in Seymour, IA, the daughter of Clifford and Madeline Lloyd Cowan. She married Donald L. Brown, Sr. on October 28, 1957, in Rock Island, and he preceded her in death in April of 2004. She worked as a bus monitor for Johannes Bus Service, starting in 1998 and retiring in 2007.

Bettie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Milan. She loved the outdoors, especially her lilacs, peonies, and irises. She enjoyed getting together with family and having cook outs. More than anything, she loved watching her great granddaughters play sports.

Survivors include her children, Valerie (Dan) Black, Moline, IL, Wendy (Jim Smith) Brown, Milan, IL, and Ron (Sherri Van De Voorde) Brown, East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Rachael Black, Moline, IL, Adam (Sarah) Black, Spring, TX, Christopher Brown, Milan, IL, Cory (Keisha) Brown, Milan, IL; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert Bowling, Moline, IL, and James Bowling, Moline, IL; sisters, Linda Montecino, Colona, IL, Cornelia Arnold, Geneseo, IL, and Debbie Brookes, Geneseo, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susan Brown; son, Donald Brown, Jr.; 2 sisters.
