Bruce Grimes

Bruce Grimes, 61, of Erie, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, surrounded by his two loving sons and brother.

Cremation rites will be accorded.  A private funeral service will be held.  Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Svithiod Club 1522 6th Ave Moline, IL 61265.  Masks required per state mandate.  Memorials may be made to ALS of Iowa or Living Lands & Waters because Bruce loved the Mississippi.

Bruce left us just after celebrating his 61st birthday with friends, family, and live music at Bass Street Landing.  He was born on August 26, 1960, in Moline, the son of Merv and Nona (Martin) Grimes.  He married Brenda Franck in Elk River, MN, on September 18, 1993.  Bruce was an outstanding swimmer at Moline high School graduating in 1979.  He worked for AT&T retiring in 2019 after 30 years of service.  Bruce loved his two boys, Ben and Brody and supported them in all their sporting events. Bruce loved mountain biking, boating, fishing on the Mississippi River and attending family gatherings.  If you knew Bruce, you know that he loved finding unique knick-knacks that he filled his house with.  Bruce also loved his dogs starting with his boy hood black lab, Duke and ending with his rescue husky, Brutus, who was by his side until the end.

Those who are left to carry on include his sons, Ben (Sarah Wilson) Grimes, and Brody Grimes; brother, Bill (Becki) Grimes; brother-in-law, Steve (Nancy Gustafson) Shetter; nieces and nephews, Jason (Darcel) Shetter, Erin Shetter, Jay Grimes, Jackie (John) Miller; great nieces and nephews, Alex Hicks, Luke, and Mark and Annie Miller.

Bruce is now in the loving arms of his mom and dad and his adored sister, Maryann Grimes Shetter.

The family would like to thank Bruce’s devoted caregivers, Brooke Garard and Louie Velasco.
