Bruce H. Mauritzson, 73, of Port Byron, IL, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, IA.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1450 30th Avenue, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a member, or to the Mauritzson Scholarship Fund at Augustana College which was established in his grandfather's name.
Bruce was born on January 18, 1939, in Moline, IL, the son of Anders V. and Eleanor (Bixler) Mauritzson. He graduated from Moline High School in 1956, attended Augustana College, obtained a BSME from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and an MBA from the University of Iowa. He married Mildred "Millie" A. Fulton on November 3, 1962, at First Lutheran Church in Moline, IL. Today marks their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He worked 40 years as an Engineer for the Rock Island Arsenal during which time he received both the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Civilian Service and the Superior Civilian Service award. He retired from the Arsenal in 1996, after which he assisted his wife, Millie, with her business, Five Star Tax & Financial Services of East Moline. Bruce was a member of the Viking Club of Moline, both the University of Illinois and the University of Iowa Alumni Clubs, and a 50-year standing bridge club. He was an avid reader, traveled extensively throughout his life, enjoyed time with family and friends, and loved spoiling his grandchildren.
