Bruce C. I. Skoglund, 102, of Rock Island, passed away, August 2, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 246.
Bruce was born on March 17, 1923, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Erick and Ingrid (Halverson) Skoglund. He married Audrey I. Sundberg in Moline on March 8, 1952; she preceded him in death in 2020. Bruce was a veteran, having served in the US Airforce during WWII, flying the P-51 Mustang. He worked as a toolmaker on the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years before retiring in December of 1980. In his younger years, he was an apprentice at Fairbanks, Morse & Co in East Moline.
Bruce was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and the Moline American Legion Post 246. He was also the former treasurer at the Vikings Club, Thor Lodge No 9 IOV and for the Svithoid Club Frej #16 IOS. Bruce was a self-taught accordion player. He loved reading about airplanes, camping, dancing, and bowling.
Survivors include his children, Christine (Rick) Brandt and Erick Skoglund; grandchildren, Becky (Chad) Wilburn, Elizabeth (Drew) Otten, Amy (Jay) McEvoy, and Sarah (Cody) Bower; 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
