Butch (Melvin) R. Downs, 63, of Colona, IL, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Black Hawk East Foundation Auto Mechanics Scholarship or to Gilda's Club.
Butch was born on April 25, 1949 in Canton, MO, the son of Robert and Marjorie (Boyer) Downs. He married Donna Hinkle on August 22, 1970 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. He worked as a business agent with Laborers Local #309 and retired after 34 years in 2002. Butch loved building his 1932 and 1934 Huppmobiles having shown them all over the country. He also enjoyed golfing with all of his Oakwood Country Club friends, his Harley, and traveling with his wife, Donna. Butch served on several boards including the Colona City Council for 12 years and he was on the Board of Directors at Oakwood Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chuck Downs; sister-in-law, Dianna Hall; mother and father-in-law.
