C. Alice Coulter

C. Alice Coulter, 90, of Orion, IL, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center - Silvis Campus, Silvis, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Orion United Methodist Church, 407 12th Avenue, Orion. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

C. (Clara) Alice VanSickle was born May 21, 1924, at 81 Lincoln St. in Galesburg, Illinois to Dr. Rex L. and Clara Jane (Davis) VanSickle. She married her high school
sweetheart, Richard Donald Coulter, on November 18, 1944, at the Orion Methodist
Church. They were married 60 years.

As a child, Alice, her mother, and father, who was a veterinarian working for the
government, moved around a bit before settling in Orion. Alice attended both
Irving and Audubon grade schools in Rock Island before moving to Orion. She
finished grade school and graduated from Orion High School in 1942. Alice
continued her education at Moline Business College.

For a number of years, Alice was a member of the Rebecca Lodge (the women's
branch of the Odd Fellows) attaining the rank of Noble Grand.

In 1951 Dick and Alice bought a farm near Orion and farmed for many years before
retiring. She had worked at Deere & Company prior to the birth of their first child.
After their four children were in school, Alice went to work in the office at St.
Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island. When Franciscan Hospital (now Trinity West)
opened, Alice was the first person working in the new hospital making the move to
the new office. After retiring Dick and Alice moved to Branson, Missouri. working
with their dear friends, Dean and Vinita Sims, at their Compton Ridge Campgrounds
for many enjoyable years before returning to Orion.

She was a lifelong member of the Orion United Methodist Church belonging to
the Queen Esther Circle. She very much enjoyed Bible study with her pastor and
friends.

Alice was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and
aunt. She was active in her children and grandchildren's lives. She will be greatly
missed by all her family, friends and her community. Survivors include daughters
Carol Becka and longtime friend Roland Groce, Moline, Illinois; Joyce and Robert
Schoemaker Moline, Illinois; Nancy Wigant and fiancé Dwayne Witt
Orion, Illinois; and son Donald J. Coulter Orion, Illinois. Grandchildren are Jeremy
(Dr. J.) Schoemaker, Lincoln, Nebraska; Andrea (Tom) Timbrook, Geneseo,
Illinois; Chris (Dawn) Anderson, Muscatine, Iowa; Heath (Andrea) Anderson
Andalusia, Illinois; Donald R. Coulter Orion, Illinois; Nicholas (Nichole) Coulter,
Bettendorf, Iowa; Seth Coulter, Orion, Illinois; Robert Wigant, Orion, Illinois; and
Richard Wigant, Orion, Illinois. Great Grandchildren include Gwenyth Coulter, Juliet
and Joslyn Schoemaker, Scarlett and Kealy Coulter and step great-
grandchildren Steven and Skylar Timbrook, Geneseo, Illinois. Alice also is survived
by a sister Betty Morgan, four nieces, eight nephews and extended family. She was
preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers-in-law, one sister-in-
law, and one nephew.

Her pride, love, and support of her family will never be forgotten. She lived her
faith and her kindness was recognized by all.
