Carol Ann Kroeger

Carol Ann Forsyth Kroeger, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.  

A private memorial service and family burial will be held a later date at Moline Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, Moline, Rock Island County Historical Society or the American Cancer Society.

Carol was born on July 8, 1938 in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the daughter of Andrew McAnsh and Ruth Carter Rogers Forsyth.  She married Richard D. Kroeger on September 5, 1959 in Hanover, Massachusetts and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2019.

Carol graduated in 1956 from Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston, Massachusetts and moved to Moline to live with her aunt and uncle while attending and graduating from the Moline Institute of Commerce where she met her future husband, Dick.  Upon graduating from MIC, Carol was employed with Deere & Company as a secretary in the Patent Department.  Once her children were in school, she was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Otto Stegmaier, and later worked at Black Hawk College as a Faculty Secretary in the English and History Departments, retiring in 1989.

Carol was an active member of the KT chapter of P.E.O. where she served as president as well as other offices.  She took great interest in genealogy and tracking her family history.  She spent 20 years volunteering with the Rock Island Historical Society where she served as a board member and research chairperson, as well as the editor of the newsletter for several years. Carol was an active 60+ year member of the First Congregational Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, church council woman, deaconess on the Diaconate Board, sang in the Chancel Choir and played in the hand bell choir for several years.   

Above all else, Carol valued spending time with her family and friends. In the past few years, she welcomed two great grandchildren who brought her great joy and she loved nothing more than spending time with them and her cherished grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her daughters; Kathryn (Kevin) Shepard of Davenport, Iowa and Susan (Donald) Roberts of McHenry, Illinois; her grandchildren; Michelle Mampre, David (Daniella Kucherina) Mampre, Ryan (Alexandra) Roberts, Michael Roberts; Michael (Kathleen) Shepard and Nicholas (Shelby) Shepard; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, William (Phyllis) Forsyth, Marshfield, MA, and Robert (Janet) Forsyth, Marshfield, MA, Nephew, Jeffrey (Jana) Peterson and niece, Sally (Melvin) Peterson-Short.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard.
