Catherine was born on November 3, 1948, in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Morrison) Barber. She graduated from Herscher High School in Herscher, IL. On July 1, 1967, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, George B. Rivard, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee, IL. Together they shared a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to their family and faith.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Catherine’s kindness and creativity touched everyone she met. Artistically gifted, she excelled in oil painting, decorating, floral arranging, sewing, and crocheting. Whatever she set her heart on learning, she mastered. Her elegant penmanship and handmade recipe cards became cherished keepsakes for her family. She loved gardening, fishing, bird watching, and spending time immersed in nature. Catherine held a deep appreciation for American literature and found joy in reading—Henry David Thoraeu being among her favorite authors. Competitive by nature, she enjoyed playing sports and games and always brought a spirit of fun to every gathering.
Catherine had a wonderful sense of humor and a joyful laugh that could light up a room. She delighted in making others smile and always found the bright side of any situation. Above all, she was selfless and nurturing—always willing to care for and support those she loved. Whether tending to her flower garden, fishing at the family lake house, or bringing her family together for holidays and celebrations, she created a home filled with beauty, warmth, laughter, and love.
Catherine is survived by her husband, George; daughters, Suzanne (Steven) Lampe of Bettendorf, IA, Melissa (Donald) Lashbrook of Silvis, IL, and Margaret (Wesley) Hand of Le Claire, IA; and her beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Christopher Reid, Amanda and Taylor Lampe, Alexander and Catherine Lashbrook, and Victoria and George Hand. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Charles Reid and Felix Reid, and Vincent Stevens Jr.; her sister, Marie (Barber) Konrath of Chicago, IL; and extended loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frank A. Barber; and her father- and mother-in-law, Bernard and Louise (Drummond) Rivard.
Catherine will be remembered for her artistic spirit, wit, boundless compassion, and a lifelong devotion to her family. Her love will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her.
