Charles Grenko, age 72, of Des Moines, formerly of Centerville, IA, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Inurnment will follow at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory of Charlie.
Charles was born March 30, 1949, in Centerville, Iowa to John and Katherine (Golick) Grenko. He proudly served in the United States Army and was employed in the maintenance industry. Charlie enjoyed watching football, baseball, drag racing and professional wrestling. He was a very quiet and reserved person with a loving heart. He was always concerned with his family’s well-being. He loved being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews and always kept up with their activities. Charlie enjoyed his many visits to his cousin Richard Golik and his family. He enjoyed many discussions about cars and car models. He was the “quiet uncle” and a good little brother to his siblings. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Swanson of Orion, Illinois; brother, Stanley (RoseAnn) Grenko of Chicago, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, John W. Grenko and Donald E. Grenko; sister, Delores Cullison; and his parents.
