Charles Pearson

Charles A. Pearson, 85, of East Moline, IL, formerly of Geneseo, IL, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by East Moline American Legion Post 227. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Geneseo.

Charles was born on March 12, 1928, in Chicago, IL, the son of Aaron and Ruth (Bergstrom) Pearson. He married Shirley Gates in April of 1949, in Seattle, WA. He later married June Marie (Freeze) Strang on April 29, 1955, in Lancaster, MO.

Charles was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a life member of the V.F.W. having served as the Commander of the former Silvis V.F.W. Post 1933 and a current member of the Moline V.F.W. Post 2153. Charles was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Children's Home in Eaton Rapids, MI. He was also the Commander for Rock Island County Council and for District 8.

Charles worked as a driver for the former Rock Island Lumber Company. He later worked as an electrician for the former Torrance Electric Company in Rock Island. In 1990, Charles retired after 30 years of Service at Torrance as a hoistman.

Charles was a member of First Baptist Church in Geneseo and belonged to the Thor Lodge #9 I.O.V. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling. Above all, Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Harriet Gates; brother, John Remmy.
