Charles W. Stoudt

Charles “Toby” W. Stoudt, 94, of Orion, passed away, Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion.  Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Orion.  Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made to his family.

Toby was born July 2, 1927, in Leland, Illinois, the son of Harry W. and Kate R. (Himmelburger) Stoudt.  He married Leona Mae Swanson on January 8, 1952, in Orion.  Toby was a U.S. Army and Merchant Marines veteran serving in WWII and the Korean War.  He was a member of the Orion American Legion Post 255, a founding and life member of the Orion V.F.W. Post 143 where he previously served as the Post Advocate from 1973-1975 and former Post Junior Vice Commander.  Toby also served on the honor guard with both the American Legion and V.F.W.  He was a former volunteer with the Orion Fire Department.  Toby was the owner and operator of Swanson Hardware Store in Orion and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and swapping lies with friends.

Survivors include his wife; children, Brian (Patricia) Stoudt, Orion, and Arlan (Jennifer Miller) Stoudt, New Windsor; grandchildren, Ronald W. (Karen Mackey) Higbee II, Clarence, IA, Tonya (Christian) Remley, Lyndon, IL, Kristina (Patric) Harris, Johnston, IA, Heidi (David) Cousins, Blairsburg, IA, and Amanda Stoudt, Lisbon, IA; 16 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, siblings, Amanda Stratton, Harriet Stoudt, Irma Williams, Kathryn Smith, Marguerite Chamberlain, Charlotte Claude, Annie Gunderson, John Stoudt, Frank Stoudt, Raymond Stoudt and Harry Stoudt, and granddaughter, Nichole Stoudt.
