Charles "Chuck" Gersitz

Charles “Chuck” Gersitz, 91, of McKinney, Texas formerly of Moline, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Park Manor in McKinney.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Those wishing to attend should meet at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, by 9:15 a.m.  Military rites will be accorded by Moline American Legion Post #246.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Chuck was born on January 29, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the son of Albert Joseph and Lillian Pauline Kyle Gersitz.  He married Sally Greene on April 27, 1957, at the Cadet Chapel at West Point.

Chuck enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17 and went on to graduate from West Point in 1955.  He furthered his military career retiring in 1976 after 25 years as Lieutenant Colonel.  Furthering his education, he received 3 masters of applied science degrees including one from Augustana College.  Chuck’s true passion was reading about military history and following Napoleon’s tracts.  In his later years Chuck enjoyed watching the weather channel.

Chuck is survived by his daughters; Liz (Tom) Winckler and Margaret (Stephen) Clark; grandchildren; Jacob (Alexanderia) Moore, Jakki (Lynn) Hale, Christian Clark, Patrick Clark, Connor Clark and Aaron Clark; sisters, Katharine Gersitz Call, Susan Gersitz Rockwell; nephews, Christian (Ava) Call, Owen (Erin) Rockwell; nieces, Heidi Call, Johanna Rockwell, Emily Rockwell Geevaratne.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
