Chester C. Bahnks Jr., 78, of Moline, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, surrounded by his loved ones.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38 Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Brain Injury Association of Illinois or to Riverside United Methodist Church of Moline.
Chuck was born on January 6, 1935, in Moline, IL, the son of Chester C. and Mary (Arnott) Bahnks, Sr. He graduated from Geneseo High School, Class of '52. He was a journeyman carpenter.
On January 26, 1957, Chuck married Patricia Catour in Moline. Through the years he was employed at Axel Carlson Construction, Navistar (Farmall), and Moline Housing Authority. He was a member of Riverside Methodist Church, Moline.
Chuck enjoyed coaching his children in their younger years and attending their and his grandchildren's games, concerts, and various activities. He also enjoyed a good penny ante poker game with his parents and siblings, Bill Gaither music, and feeding the birds around his home. He loved family gatherings where he could always be counted on to make his loved ones laugh.
Chuck is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Pat; daughters: Lori Bahnks, Marta (Bob) Leonard, and Kara Bahnks; son, Chester "Chad" C. (Tara) Bahnks, III; grandchildren: Michael and Lindsey Leonard, Ethan Johnston, Bryn and C.C. (Trey) Bahnks, IV, and Evan Cooper; siblings: Bob (Lavona) Bahnks, Betty (Bob) Christensen, Bill Bahnks, and Sharon (Jim) DeBo; sisters-in-laws: Maggie Bahnks and Bernie Catour. He will be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ben; grandson, Rob Leonard.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who showed such patience through these past difficult 14 months, especially the wonderful 4-1 staff at Hope Creek. We thank everyone for supporting us with your prayers and acts of kindness and take comfort knowing he is finally at peace.
