Daniel "Dan" Diederich

Daniel “Dan” Diederich, 65, of East Moline, IL, went to Heaven on Wednesday, November 08, 2017, at his sister’s home in East Moline, after a brave battle with cancer.  During these past several months, he never lost his sense of humor.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 555 18th Avenue, East Moline.  Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, Dan asked for memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Dan was born on March 14, 1952, in Moline, IL, the son of Eugene “Gene” T. and Annette J. Mitton Diederich.

Dan graduated from United Township High School in 1970 and from Northern Illinois University in 1974 with a degree in Graphic Design.  After college, he worked at Wilson and Lund in Moline.  Later, Dan and three others started Silver Image in Moline.  Silver Image later became Silver Oaks Communications, where Dan worked until his retirement in March 2017.

Dan was a loving, caring brother and friend whose greatest joy was his family. Dan loved his music and owned hundreds of record albums and music videos.  He loved going to the races in Elkhart Lake, Indiana, with his friends every year since 1976.  He loved car shows and was so very proud of his 1984 Porsche 911.  Most of all he loved living in his house on the river.  Every July Fourth, he hosted a party and put on a fantastic fireworks display.  He loved taking his friends and family for rides on his pontoon.  Dan loved to travel and made several trips to Europe.  He was quick with a joke or a witty reply.  Dan so enjoyed his life.

Thank you to everyone who took time to send a card, make a phone call or stopped to visit.  Thank you to Dr. Constantinou and his caring staff at Hematology and Oncology Center, the doctors and staff at University of Iowa City Hospitals who saw him through his first bout with cancer four years ago and to Genesis Hospice for helping him through his final days.  Thank you to Father Dittmer and the caring ladies of St. Anne Catholic Church in East Moline for bringing Dan Holy Communion on a weekly basis.

Thank you to his “guys” at Silver Oaks Communications in Moline for your outpouring of love and concern.  He was so grateful to have worked with you and considered you his family.

A special thank you to all his dear friends who visited him regularly during this difficult time.  He was always so glad to see you and your visits lifted his spirits and made him forget his pain for a while.  You are the best friends anyone could ever hope to have and Dan truly loved you.

Thank you to all our dear friends for your care and concern.

Most of all, thank you to our family here at home and away for all your prayers and outpouring of love and support.  We are truly blessed to have been born into such a loving and caring family.

And lastly, thank you mom and dad for giving us the best brother anyone could ever hope to have.

We miss you, Danny, but you are no longer in pain and for that we are grateful.

Dan is survived by his sister, Deborah (Ran Knox) Beauchamp, East Moline, IL; brother, Kevin (Annette) Diederich, East Moline; his nieces, Kim (Todd) Verbeckmoes, East Moline, Kari (Scott) Searl, Hillsdale, IL, Angela (Andrew) Soultz, Foley, AL, and Adam (Kimber) Diederich, Rock Island, IL; great nephews, Alec and Evan Verbeckmoes, Preston Searl, and Kolby Diederich; great nieces Jaden Searl and Karsyn Diederich.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

The outpouring of love for Dan during this trying time is a testament to the wonderful, caring man he was.  He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Oh, Danny Boy, oh, Danny Boy, we love you so.
