Darald Dean Eller was born on Sunday, November 8, 1925, at his family home in the Salt Creek field near LaVoye, Wyoming and close to Teapot Rock, a natural feature of the land from which the Teapot Dome inherited part of its name. He was the third of four children (all born in Wyoming) to Lloyd Emanuel and Nina Marian Peckenpaugh Eller. Darald married Vicki Hons Phillips on June 4, 1980, in Jackson, WY.
Darald attended Natrona county Schools in Midwest, Wyoming through the eleventh grade. At the end of the school year he followed his parents to a newly purchased farm near Radcliff, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1943. He worked on his father's farm until April of 1945 when he entered the United States Army at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. Shortly thereafter he received 17 weeks of Infantry basic training at Camp Walters, TX. From there via Fort Riley, Kansas and Fort Ord, California he served at Camp Haan and Camp McQuaide, California. In the last two camps (both United States Disciplinary Barracks) he spent the remainder of his service working in the office of Prisoner Personnel and as the Supervisor of Prisoners. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on the 24th of October in 1946, having served during WWII.
After his career in the United States Army, Darald worked as a pastor and as the Director of Development for Hillcrest Services to Children's Youth in Dubuque, Bethany Home in Moline, and the Moline Public Library. He retired in 1988.
Darald was a member of the United Methodist Church and the National Society of Fundraising Executives which is now the Association of Fundraising Professionals, where he started the local QC chapter.
