Darwin Kershaw

May 12, 1932 — August 24, 2015

Darwin "Buz" Kershaw, 83, of Colona, IL, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL, lovingly surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dayton Corners Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Green Rock Colona American Legion Post 1233. Memorials may be made to the Green Rock Colona American Legion Post 1233 and the Colona Fire Department.

Buz was born on May 12, 1932, in Colona, IL, the son of Clyde and Berniece A. Crouch Kershaw. He married Joanne Voorhis in 1951, in Colona and she preceded him in death in April of 1974. He later married Barbara Bender in 1990 in Bradenton, FL.

Buz was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was a long time member of Green Rock Colona American Legion Post 1233.

Buz was a life-long farmer. He, along with his mother and brother, Darrell, owned Kershaw Mobile Home Park in Colona.

Buz was a simple man who enjoyed golf, bowling, and flying his plane in his earlier years. He really enjoyed getting on his motorcycle and riding to his friend, Jim Mortier's to repair farm equipment. Buz enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears and was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed times with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barb; daughter, Brenda (Armando) Veloz, Colona, IL; sons, David (Grace) Kershaw, Moline, and Dale (Jackie) Kershaw, Colona, Duane (Diane) Kershaw, Colona; stepsons, Bill (Mary Ann) Bender, East Moline, John (Angel) Bender, East Moline, Tom (Brenda) Bender, Colona, and daughter, Becky; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Betty Meier, Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joanne; brother, Darrell Kershaw; sister, Donna Michels.

The family would like to thank the staff at Illini Restorative Care - South Wing and Genesis Hospice Care for their excellent care.
