Daryl was born on September 19, 1957, in Moline, the son of Elwyn and Mary Louise (Lewis) Ecker. Daryl grew up in the Covenant Church. He wrestled in high school and loved watching sports. Daryl was previously employed as an assembler at Deere & Co., retiring after 38 years. He enjoyed spending time with longtime schoolmates hunting on the Mississippi backwater and in Canada, and shooting picks in his weekly league. Daryl valued conservation and loved his dogs. He also liked fishing and boating on the Rock River and in Bagley, Wisconsin. As a younger guy, Daryl raced boats and water skied as well as snowmobiling locally and in northern Wisconsin. He spent much of his time watching his daughter play volleyball from middle school through college and enjoyed watching her theater performances. Daryl had a good sense of humor. He would urge us to “be cool, and don’t sweat the small stuff.”
Survivors include his daughter, Halie Ecker; son, Adam Dawson; mother, Mary Ecker; siblings, Douglas (Jeanne) Ecker, Debra (Mike) Crawford; grandchildren, Charlotte, Maxim, Sullivan; mother to his children, Dawn Dawson-Ecker; nephew, Ryan (Brittany) Dierks; niece, Erica (Jake) Waterman.
