Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1611 41st Street, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church where he was a member, ALS-MDA for research, or to his family.
David was born on January 29, 1938, in Geneseo, IL, the son of David and Lavon Emmert. In his early years his parents moved a lot. He went to 8 different grade schools, 3 high schools, and 3 different colleges. He graduated in 1968 from Western Illinois University. He also did graduate work at Western.
He married the love of his life, Judith A. Swanson in December of 1961 in Orion, IL. He taught art in Geneseo, Orion, and Silvis. When he left teaching he sold furniture at Montgomery Wards where he was a member of the Million Dollar Club in sales. He had a love of the outdoors and he and his sons started a lawn and landscaping company where he designed and built many beautiful areas in the Quad Cities. During the 17 years he battled ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) he painted many pictures. He gave many away to MDA & ALS patients. His paintings span from Florida to Arizona. He has a painting hanging in the Robert Ross MDA National Headquarters in Tucson, AZ.
He is survived by his wife, Judie; a son, Brad Emmert, Moline; and his children Christopher, Adam, and Jennah; a daughter, Beth (Mike) Amlong, Orion, and their children, David and Lisa; and a son, Greg (Denise) Emmert, Moline, and their child Tylor. David also has a brother, Bart (Bonnie) Emmert, Grand Junction, CO.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
