David A. Hunt, 70, of Moline, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at his home.

Dave was born on June 15, 1951, in Moline, IL, to Clifford E. and Mary Lou (Moore) Hunt. He was an only child but found a "brother" in his childhood neighbor, Denny Hodge, who remained his best friend throughout life. He married Eva Gaskill on April 8, 1978. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of their lives together.
Dave went into business as a wholesale fastener distributor with his father in 1969. He later took over Mid-States Specialty Sales, which he continued to grow over the next 50 years. Dave designed and built a number of flood walls to protect his business from many mighty Mississippi floods. Thanks to his wonderful, hardworking friends, he was always able to keep the floodwater out.
He started his coaching career with the boys' baseball team of William Carr Elementary in the early 1970s. He later coached both of his daughters' softball teams, Rampage and Magic, where he built long-lasting relationships with both the players and his fellow coaches.
Dave grew up on the putting green of Old Oakwood, quickly becoming an avid golfer as a child. As a lifelong member of Oakwood Country Club, he spent much of his spare time perfecting his golf game. He was blessed with a golf group that became close friends on and off the golf course. Dave took the trip of a lifetime to Scotland in 2008 to play the Old Course at St. Andrews.
He lived his life with determination, integrity, and a commitment to his family. His favorite title was Grandpa to his two grandchildren, Eleonore and Jakob. He was also honored to be godfather to Lazar, Leila, and Ophelia Lanzo.
Survivors include his wife, Eva; daughters, Stephanie Hunt, Elizabeth (Brian) Deering; grandchildren, Eleonore and Jakob Deering.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in support of the Cancer Center Department Fund (3050600) to the University of Iowa Center for Advancement, PO Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244.
Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
