David Pierce

November 21, 1935 — March 20, 2016

David Pierce, 80, of Moline, IL, died Sunday, March 20, 2016, at home.

A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Private family services will be held at a later date.  Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the River Bend Food Bank or to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

David was born on November 21, 1935, in Davenport, IA, the son of James T. and Bessie Boyd Pierce.  He married Janet M. Hoffman on November 17, 1956, in Moline, IL, and she preceded him in death on July 6, 2013.  He worked for John Deere for 33 years, retiring in 1986.  Following his retirement, David held several other jobs at Saukie Golf Course, Hafner’s Tavern, President River Boat, and The iWireless Center.

David was a member of the Masons.  He enjoyed golf.  In his younger years, he participated in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program as a Big Brother.

Survivors include his daughters, Leslie (Tim) Woolever and Kara (Diana) Birlew; grandchildren, Zachary Sisco, Chelsea “Sweet Pea” (Amanda) Meaker, and Henry Woolever; great grandson, Tatumn Swanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Jim, Chuck, Ray, and Jack Pierce; sisters, Peg Worrell and Vivian Bond.
