Donald J. Benson, Sr.

Donald J. Benson Sr., 81, of Moline, passed away June 18, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family.

Don was born on October 4, 1943, in Moline, the son of George and Margarite Benson. He married Betty J. Jacobson on February 19, 1966, in Hobart, Indiana. Don was a U.S Veteran, having served in the Army from 1964-1967. He had been employed as a welder with Caterpillar in Davenport and later with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working in barge traffic, retiring in 2008. Don was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Donald J. Benson Jr. of Colona; and grandson, Tyler Baumbach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Deborah Marten and brother, Richard Benson.
