Donald F. Hancock, 84, of Orion, IL, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Orion United Methodist Church, 407 12th Avenue, Orion. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March, 17, 2013 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery where military honors will be performed by Orion American Legion Post 255. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church.

Donald was born on December 17, 1928, in Colona, IL, the son of Melvin and Lila (Gainey) Hancock. He graduated from Orion High School in 1946. He served in the Navy as a CB105 at the time he played for the Amphibians football team and was later recruited by Duke University to play basketball and football. Donald married Dorothy "Dottie" J. Bowman on July 24, 1949 in Bayside, VA. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2000. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Orion United Methodist Church. Donald worked as an electrician and later became a supervisor at the Rock Island Arsenal. He worked there for 47 years, finally retiring in 1998. Donald enjoyed golf and played fast pitch softball. He was entered into the OHS Hall of Fame in 2003.
