Donald W. Howell, 98, of Silvis, IL, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at First Covenant Church, 3303 41st Street, Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Covenant Church Memorial Trust Fund, Christian Friendliness, or to the Agnes Teske Memorial Trust Fund.

Donald was born on October 10, 1917, in Leon, IA, the son of Robert and Ruth Coglizer Howell. After completing his formal education, he moved to Moline, IL, and was employed by Williams & White Co on January 20, 1941. He started as an erector of large special machinery and worked in various departments and retired on May 1, 1984 as vice president in charge of sales.

He was an active member of First Covenant Church. He was appointed chairman of the Planning and Building Committee for the construction of their new church located on 41st Street in Moline, which was dedicated on May 19, 1968. He later served several years as chairman of the church.

Don also served as president of Christian Friendliness at a time when leadership was needed to revive the organization and develop some financial strength to carry on their work.

He married Beulah Gustafson on June 20, 1943, and she passed away on June 20, 1974. He then married Irene Carlson, a long-time acquaintance, on November 1, 1975.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; daughter, Linda (Dave) Nelson, Granger, IN; step daughter, Maren Wetherald, Boca Raton, FL; grandchildren, Scott (Beth) Nelson, South Bend, IN, Amanda (David) Wallace, Mishawaka, IN, Chris Trapkus, Brian (Jamie) Trapkus, Moline, IL, Melanie (Brandon) Gutormson, Bonner, MT; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Howell, ID; nephew, Gail (Kathy) Howell, Leon, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beulah; daughter, Mardee Trapkus; brothers, Richard Howell and Robert Howell.
