Donald L. Mitten

Donald L. Mitten, 91, of Silvis, IL, passed away, March 11, 2026, at New Perspective Senior Living.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Midwest Affiliate.

Donald was born on March 20, 1934, in Wabash, Indiana, the son of Lloyd and Anna (Fender) Mitten. He married Mary Joan Linton in Shelbyville, IL on September 19, 1954; she preceded him in death in Galva, IL on June 4, 2024. Donald was a veteran, having served in the US Army. He attended and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1970 and then graduated from Western Illinois University with a master’s degree in fine arts in 1973. He was an artist and loved pottery, wood carving, and painting.

Survivors include his children, Doug Mitten, Evanna (Dan) Zaiss, Tammy Mitten, and Eric (Kristin) Mitten; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; siblings, Bruce (Karen) Mitten, Mary (Tim) Mercer, and Peter Mitten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Mitten, and siblings, Eloise and Julian.
