Donald E. Peterson, 74, of Coal Valley, IL died on September 27, 2014 at UnityPoint Trinity Rock Island.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, 1600-20th Street, Rock Island, IL. Burial will be at Glennwood Cemetery, Coal Valley, where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2014 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 - 38th Avenue, Moline, IL, with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Rock Island.
Donald was born on January 21, 1940 in Milan, Illinois, the son of Harold E.C. and Leila F. Ells Peterson. He married Carolyn J. Boltz on December 10, 1961 in Coal Valley.
Donald was employed as a machinist first with Reynolds Engineering and later with Swan Engineering in Bettendorf retiring in 2003. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served from March 1957 until October 1960. Donald was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rock Island having served as both an usher and board member. He was a former member of the UAW, Svithoid and Frij Clubs. Donald was a 32 degree mason, member of the Orion Masonic Lodge 535 A.F. & A.M., Valley of Moline Scottish Rite and had been a Past Master three times, 1997, 2007 and 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years.
