Donald R. Milroy

Donald R. Milroy, 95, formerly of Moline, passed away, Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Courtyard Estates in Knoxville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Immediately following the service, the burial will be held at Moline Memorial Park, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg.

Don was born on September 11, 1927, in Knox County, the son of Archie and Mary Gibbs Milroy.   He was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the Air Force from September 1948 to August 1952.  He married Betty Rae Rambo on April 26, 1953, in Victoria, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2019.

Early in his career he worked as a trade carpenter in Knox County and, after moving to Moline, throughout the Quad Cities.  He began working at the Rock Island Arsenal as a General Planner/Estimator in 1962. Don retired from Federal Service in 1986 and was employed almost immediately by General Dynamics (GD) who contracted maintenance of the Arsenal.   He retired from GD in 1991.  Don continued to stay busy throughout his retirement overseeing large construction projects and always tinkering in his garage.  His hobbies in addition to carpentry, were gardening and reading.

Survivors include his children, Sue (Bob) Siltman, Jon (Cindy) Milroy; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jenny) Milroy, Joshua Milroy, Emily (Noel) Powers, Cassie (Shaun) Thurwanger, Benjamin (Kelly Browne) Siltman, and Daniel (Rachel) Siltman; 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren; sisters Jane Crosson and Marilyn Saline, brother-in-law John Chaney, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brother Bob, and sisters Marge and Rosalie.
