Donavon Kieth Weston, 89, of East Moline, passed away, May 9, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Private family burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island or to the Rock Island Kiwanis Club.
Donavon was born on October 20, 1935, in Shenandoah, IA, the son of Carroll and Mary Josephine (Fletcher) Weston. He married Carolyn Anne Hoaglund on October 14, 1960, in Moline. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1984. He later married Kathleen M. (Reeder) Christensen on August 3, 2002, in Moline.
Donovan graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1953 and graduated from Augustana College in 1963. He is a US Army veteran, having served from 1958-1960 in Germany. In his earlier years, he worked as a meat cutter. Later in life he worked as a foreman in the sheet metal and various other departments at International Harvester, East Moline, before retiring in 1984. Donovan also worked at the Protential Golf Driving Range for 12 years. He was a member of the 15th Avenue Christian Church in Rock Island and the Rock Island Kiwanis Club.
Donovan loved touring the world; he’s gone on numerous cruises in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Coast of Mexico. He also went on trips to Croatia, Scotland, and Ireland. During retirement, he enjoyed doing furniture restoration. He was a master of hummingbirds; he’d always keep them fed. Donovan was known as a very kind and polite man. He enjoyed sitting and talking with friends who were homebound.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; stepsons, Kent and Kevin Christensen; brother, Michael (Helen) Weston; sisters-in-law, Penny Hovis and Dawn Fensterbusch; many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a niece and nephew.
