Donna Kay Chyma, 84, of Moline, passed away on the evening of Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Moline, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded, and a family Celebration of Life is planned for the summer. Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline is assisting the family.
Donna was born on May 26, 1941, in Mattoon, Illinois, to James and Helen (Morton) Ruland. She graduated from Mattoon Community High School in 1959 and was working as a legal secretary at Craig & Craig law firm in Mattoon when she met the love of her life, David Chyma. They were married on September 17, 1961, in Mattoon.
Over the years, Donna held several secretarial positions. However, her career path changed in 1984 when she became a Mary Kay Cosmetics beauty consultant. For more than 40 years, Donna took great pride in helping women look and feel their very best. Those who knew her would describe her as a walking advertisement for the company, with her beautiful, wrinkle-free skin all these years! She retired from Mary Kay in 2024.
When her children were young, Donna was actively involved in the PTA for all her kids and attended or participated in all their activities. She was also a dedicated member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In her free time, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble and cards, watching Hallmark movies, and spending time with friends. However, her favorite times were spent with her family. She treasured time with all her grandchildren and her little dog, Charlie. Friends and family will cherish many fond and funny memories of Donna; there really was never a dull moment with her.
Donna is survived by her son Mike Chyma of Moline, son Tim (Tara) Chyma of Ripon, WI, and daughter Deb (Neil) Hamilton of Orion, IL. She is also survived by her granddaughters Lauren, Morgan, and Carley Chyma, and grandsons Jacob, Nick, and Josh Hamilton; her sister Iona (George) Gollick of Heber, AZ; as well as her nieces and nephews, and her sweet dog, Charlie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave; sister, Lois Abbott; and her grandson Nathaniel Hamilton.
