Donnie Harris

Donnie D. Harris, 84, of Moline, IL, died Monday, March 30, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Moline, Moline, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Milan Christian Church Youth Group.

Donnie was born on November 12, 1930, in Moline, IL, the son of Edison W. and Nellie Victoria Anderson Harris. He married Mildred Mozena on June 17, 1952, in Moline, IL, and she preceded him in death on January 2, 2008. Donnie and his wife, Mildred, were members of Milan Christian Church and spent three years building churches around the world with World Mission Builders. He was an avid railroad enthusiast and they enjoyed traveling together by steam locomotives. Donnie had a large display of HO scale trains.

Donnie worked as an installer and repairman for Illinois Bell for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, he worked as a transporter and later as a groundskeeper for Genesis. Donnie was a Korean War veteran, having proudly served as Staff Sergeant Crew Chief from 1950 - 1954 in the United States Air Force. He earned several awards including the National Service Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Moline American Legion Post 246.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; great granddaughter; half-sister; 2 brothers.
