Doris M. Calhoon

Doris M. Calhoon, 89, of Rock Island, passed away with loved ones by her side on October 20, 2026, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.

A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. with a closing blessing and prayer at 5:45 p.m. on Monday October 26, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Private graveside services will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Doris was born on July 29, 1937, in Center, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence D. and Martha V. (Luckett) Ames. She grew up in a loving home and shared an unbreakable bond with her sisters. She married her true love, Albert O. Calhoon, on February 25, 1956, in Missouri. He passed away on May 22, 2019. Doris spent most of her life as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who made her house a true home. She was very creative and enjoyed crafts and sewing. She took joy in writing short and creative stories for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She spent much of her time tending to her garden, traveling, and attending church activities.

Survivors include her children, Sindy Norris, Angela (Jim Ledbetter) Jones; grandchildren, Lacie Mullins, Jade Cotton, Luke Davis, Samantha Copeland, Devon Stoltz; great grandchildren, Layla, Leola, Archer, Tyger, Ryder; sisters, Eva Myrick and Perk Pearson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her one and only, Albert; daughter, Cheryl; brothers, Junior and Billy; and sisters, Marge and Thede.
