Dorothy P. Best

Dorothy Best, 97, formerly of Colona, IL, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. in Moline, with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral. The burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Colona United Methodist Church.

Dorothy Walker was born June 29, 1927, near Winchester, Missouri, the only child of Ed and Ernestine (Bender) Walker. She married Delbert Best January 26,1946 in Keokuk, Iowa. He passed away on July 28, 2006. She worked briefly for the former Block & Kuhl in Moline but was a homemaker for the rest of her life.

Dorothy was an active member of Colona United Methodist Church and was a former board member of the Colona-GreenRock-Orion United Way. She served many years as Chairwoman of the Colona Red Cross Bloodmobile and was instrumental in running the Colona Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include her sons Larry (Russell Wood) and Rick (Steve Jobman).

Thanks to the Genesis Hospice Team, Illini Restorative Care and New Perspective, where she lived from 2018 - 2024 and was known for her caring attitude and good humor. Special gratitude to her friends Lindy Anderson and Sandy Skelton who cared so much for her in her final days.
