Dorothy M. (Neill) Oates

Dorothy M. Oates, 94, of Moline, passed away on May 8, 2016, at the Davenport Lutheran Home, Davenport, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Dorothy was born on August 1, 1921, in West Point, IL, the daughter of Virgil C. and Alice M. Anderson Neill.  In 1945, Dorothy met the love of her life, William “Britian” H. Oates, at a Cubs baseball game at Wrigley Field.  They married in West Point, IL April 26, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 2013.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother to her family.  She enjoyed spending her time with Brit whether spending winters in Florida golfing or fishing, watching Chicago sport teams or sitting quietly together in their lawn chairs on summer evenings.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Myers and Shelley McKamey; sons, Brad (Leslie) Oates and Bruce (Erin) Oates; grandchildren, Christopher (Mary Beth) Myers, Nathan McKamey, Jeff (Elaine) McKamey, Katie (Jason) Kelly, Aaron (Maggie) Oates, Britian (Joyce) Oates, Kelly (Ryan) Duffy, Mari Oates, Lindy Oates; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Roate.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Britian; sisters, Joan and Kathleen; brothers, Clair and Donald.
