Douglas Martin

Douglas Martin, 83, of Orion, passed away Sunday July 2, 2023, at home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday July 9, 2023, Western Township Cemetery with military honors to be conducted. A celebration of life will follow at The Rock in Coal Valley. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Orion is assisting the family.

Douglas was born on June 16, 1940, the son of Clark and Zea (Myers) Martin in Maxwell, Iowa. Doug graduated from Maxwell High School, he went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. Doug went on to work as a bellhop in Des Moines, Iowa, where he met his soon-to-be wife, Claudia. He gained two stepchildren, Connie and Jean. Then they had three more children, Bill, Dana and Michele. Doug worked for JI Case and the Rock Island Arsenal as a union pipefitter. He enjoyed camping with family, running marathons, coaching softball, going on cruises, traveling and going to races and car shows. He also liked to attend different high school and college sporting events. Doug always looked for the best in others. He will be dearly missed.

Doug is survived by his son, Bill (Peggy) Martin, daughters, Michele Martin and Jean Edgeman; grandchildren, Lexi Martin, Cody Martin, Corey Martin, Dana Sawvell, Breanna Cook, Christine McMillen, Josh Dickerson, Jake Dickerson, Julie Northup, Jeff DePoorter, Justin DePoorter, John Stiles & Stephanie Ballegeer; 26 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Martin, daughters, Dana Martin and Connie Little.
