Earl Burklund, 91, of Moline, passed away, Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted. For those wishing to attend please be at Esterdahl Mortuary Moline at 10:15 a.m. Memorials may be made to any Veteran’s group in Earl’s memory. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline is assisting the family.
Earl was born on July 13, 1930, in Vermont, IL, the son of Glenn and Nina (Leach) Burklund. He married Margie Dunbar on November 10, 1951, at Elim Covenant Church, Moline. She preceded him on February 11, 2011. Earl served in the United States Army. He worked for the Moline Police Department and later for animal control in East Moline. Earl and Margie were both involved with serving veterans in any aspect. Earl was International Vice President to the AFSCME union. He was active in the past with VFW District 8 where he was Commander. He was the MOC Grand Commander and a member of Elim Covenant Church, Moline.
Survivors include his children, Kathryn Burklund, Brian Burklund, and Glenn (Cindy) Burklund; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and sisters, Bonnie, Gretta, and Marsha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Christine Burklund; siblings, Bruce and Joyce.
