Edward "Ed" L. Ferns, 86, of Moline, died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 ~ 7:00 P.M., Monday, January 17, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island Arsenal, National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #569/200 and the V.F.W. Post #1303 Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Calvary Church of the Quad Cities.
Ed was born on October 15, 1924 in Downers Grove, Illinois to William and Grace Galousha Ferns. He married Martha V. Reeves in 1946 in Yuma, Arizona. They later divorced. He then married Eleanor Blackaby on September 29, 2001 at Calvary Church of the Quad Cities.
Ed was employed as an operating engineer at Horn and Barker until 1976. He was a Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of Calvary Church of the Quad Cities, and Rock Island V.F.W. Post #1303. In April of 2010 he attended the Honor Flight. Ed loved to watch wrestling and attend the Hollandia Ship Reunions.
