Edwin L. Day, 79, of Moline, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. with a visitation from 10 to 12 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to his church where he was a longtime active member.
Edwin was born on January 24, 1938, in Moline, IL, the son of Jesse and Hallie Atcher Day. He married Gloria L. Ewing on June 6, 1959, in Moline, and she preceded him in death on February 5, 1998. He married Lula Ratliff Frank on November 1, 2003, in Buda, IL, and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2012.
Edwin was a graduate of Augustana College with a bachelor’s degree in science and geology. He worked as a 6th grade teacher for Reynolds Grade School, Blackhawk Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary, both in Moline, retiring in 1993. Edwin also worked as a teller for the School District 40 Credit Union from where he was a founder as well as board member.
Edwin was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Moline where he was also a long-time choir member. He was a member of NEA. Edwin enjoyed Sudoku puzzles and belonged to the Teacher’s Card Club. He enjoyed traveling and golfing, and above all, loved family gatherings and telling jokes.
Survivors include his sons, Mark (Rhonda) Day, Bettendorf, IA, and Scott (Cathy) Day, West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Sarah (Bill) Neumann, Angleton, TX, Erik Day, Ames, IA, Alexander Day, Spokane, WA, Ryan Day, Des Moines, IA, Collin Day, West Des Moines, IA, and Valerie Giddings, Davenport, IA; 5 great grandchildren; special friend, Kathy Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Gloria and Lula; infant son, Kevin.
